How to Track Time Across Multiple Jobs and Clients

Keep client records and hourly rates separate while switching between jobs in ClockFuel Pro.

Multiple jobs become difficult to review when every session has the same vague label. A little setup makes later exports easier to understand. Use a distinct job for each ongoing client or role, and use session notes for smaller tasks inside that job.

QUICK TAKEAWAY

A clean handoff: Stop Client A, confirm the save, select Client B, check the rate, and Start.

Choose a naming convention

Names such as Acme - website and North Studio - support are easier to distinguish than Job 1 and Job 2. Include enough context to recognize the work, but avoid sensitive client details in job names. Those names can appear in history and exported drafts. Decide whether your organizing unit is a client, role, or project and use that choice consistently.

Add jobs before starting the timer

Open Jobs & focus settings, enter a name under Add a new job, and select Add job. Multiple active jobs are available during the Pro trial and on Pro. Solo tracks one primary job. Set each job's rate and planned hours before starting its session; do not rely on a previous client's values being suitable for the next one.

Stop before you switch

When you move from one client to another, stop and save the current session. Then select the next job and start a new session. Pausing keeps the original session active and does not unlock the job selector. Keeping sessions separate avoids attributing two clients' work to the same job. ClockFuel is a single-active-session workflow, not a tool for running overlapping client timers.

Check the job filter before exporting

In Invoice + email, choose the intended job and date range. All Jobs can be useful for your own overview, but it can also include work belonging to other clients. Review names, dates, and notes before sharing any export. If you move to Solo, other jobs remain read-only history rather than becoming additional active jobs.
